Start with the layout

Under the truck. Or in the bed.

A “sneaker” usually means a wheel lift tucked beneath a pickup. An in-bed unit is another way to build a tow setup. Before comparing features, decide how the lift, tools and towing equipment will share the truck.

This guide includes San Jacinto Wreckers, the equipment sales and installation business we refer readers to. The other manufacturers below are comparison options, not products sold by Smith Towing.

Bed dimensions, mounting and truck ratings

Ask for the specifications and included equipment for the Baby Gladiator configuration you are buying. Do not substitute ratings from another Gladiator model.

Keep the comparison useful

Same job. Different setups.

Mounting location narrows the field. Then compare the published equipment ratings, truck requirements and what the supplier actually includes.

Look beyond the unit price

What is the complete truck going to cost?

A bare unit, an equipment package and an installed build are different purchases. Ask for a written breakdown so you can compare the same scope.

The unit
Exact model, head configuration, controls and included equipment.
The installation
Mounting, labor, frame preparation and any suspension work.
The working setup
Hydraulics, electrical supply, lighting, securement and the add-ons you need.
The final total
Freight, tax, pickup or travel costs, payment terms and agreed timing.

Before money changes hands

Get the truck checked first.

A pickup model name alone is not a fit check. Bring the details that let the installer evaluate the actual truck.

Identify the truck

Year, make, model, cab and bed length. Include the rating labels, current suspension changes and useful photos of the frame and bed.

Describe the work

What will you move, and what equipment will you carry? Discuss working reach, ground clearance, dollies, tools and the remaining storage space.

Agree on the handover

Get the installation scope, written warranty, maintenance requirements and support contact before ordering. Ask who handles equipment issues and installation questions.

No. The equipment rating does not increase your truck's ratings. The completed truck must stay within its vehicle, axle, tire and combined-weight limits, as well as the lift's limits at the working reach. Have the installer review the exact truck and intended loads before buying.
Not necessarily. Product names vary, so check where the equipment actually mounts. Lil Hercules mounts under the truck; Baby Gladiator is an in-bed unit. Bed space, underbody clearance and the installation plan differ.
Start the fit conversation before purchasing one. Share the year, make, model, bed length and available rating information for the truck you are considering. Do not assume a model name or a three-quarter-ton or one-ton badge confirms compatibility.
Contact San Jacinto Wreckers directly for equipment sales and installation. Contact Smith Towing when you need a vehicle towed. They have separate inquiry channels; Smith's towing request form is not an equipment order form.
